SUPPORT TO THE FAMILY ZEKIC IN PASI POLIANA

Meetings of management of City Municipality of Palilula with socially – vulnerable with people significantly contribute to strengthening confidence in institutions of the system. Successful implementation of a project “Strengthening of Municipal capacity to improve the quality of life for socially vulnerable groups”, within the program Exchange 3, encouraged this large population to overcome barriers and ask municipality for help and relevant City services. That was the case and during the visit of President of Municipality, Prof. Dr Igor Novakovic and President of Assembly, Milan Djurdevic, of family of single mother Zaklina Zekic in Pasi Poljana.
This thirty – eight years old mother of two children, with hers family lives from child allowance which is 5.000 RSD per month. Thereby, serving and mother Dragica who is heart disease. Zaklina` s son David going into the eight grade in the school in Pasi Poliana and six years old Angelina just should start school.
“David already two years going to school without books. He manage by coping the material book of his comrades, but is nevertheless very good student – says mother Zaklina”. Similar situation is expecting and little Angelina, who on fall should start in first grade. And this family because of irregular payments of bills and received interests has total debt about 500.000 RSD for electricity.
“We live difficult, don’t have the benefit, bathroom is unusable, we do not have a water heater and we heat water on the stove. Earlier I through Center for Social Work had some of work engagement, but now I am without ID and I can not to had over documents even for that – explains Zaklina Zekic and add that father of the children, from whom she divorced four years ago, also does not work anywhere and not pay a court determined child support.
Multidisciplinary mobile teams of municipal project “Strengthening of Municipal capacity to improve the quality of life for socially vulnerable groups”, after examination and conversation with household hand over to the family Zekic, single help in the form of basic food boxes (flour, sugar, oil, salt) toiletries, medicines, vitamins and President of Municipality Prof. Dr Igor Novakovic, promised and further help with employment of Zaklina in jobs through Center for Social Work, cover costs of issuing ID and other personal documents.
On the territory of Palilula Municipality, according to official statistics, there are about 75.000 people, however, this number exceeds the figure of 100.000 people. Of this number 10.000 is socially vulnerable. According to the President Prof. Dr Igor Novakovic, in Palilula Municipality live the higher number of Roma families and about 90 percent are “Invisible people”, or persons who are not registered anywhere. There is a lot of displaced persons and refugees, and more then 47 percent users of services of Center for Social Work live in Palilula Municipality. In our municipality, according to official statistics, we have the lowest average income on the territory of the city, and in Serbia we are at the very end – said Novakovic. Our teams already five months helps to the socially vulnerable, elderly and infirm persons, disabled and elderly who are immobile and dependent of other`s people help. Beside financial, provides them and medical, advisory, psychosocial and legal help. At the beginning, highlights president Novakovic, there were several families and how the program develops, expanded and the number of families, but and extent of services that team provides to them. This project from program “Exchange 3” is financed by European Union through Standing Conference of Towns of Serbia and takes one year.
